Video & Photos: Hundreds of Israeli Ocucpation soldiers raid and attack Ein Hijelh and evict residents in middle of night

Dear friends,
Israeli Occupation Forces invaded Ein Hijleh in the early morning of February 7.  Activists reported that at approximately 1.25 am Palestinian time/10.25am Australian time that hundreds of IOF entered the village firing teargas and sound grenades.  Later reports from activists suggest up to 1000 members of the Israeli Occupation Forces had been deployed to attack the village. Activists tweeting live from the village reported IOF badly beating men, women and children.  A number of women activists said they had been pushed into fires and the children in the village, who had been earlier celebrating birthdays of two of the children were being screamed at and pushed around.  The IOF also brought in bulldozers to destroy much of the work that the residents of Ein Hijleh have done over the last week.  Palestine TV ran an live feed of the IOF attack but their feed was cut by the IOF.

Activists say they were loaded on to buses and taken to Jericho. At least 41 were injured, many requiring hospitalisation. Some were placed in ICU units.

Activists have stated that despite the attack by the IOF, this is not the end of the Mileh al-Ard (Salt of the Earth) campaign and they will continue to oppose Israel's occupation and ethnic cleansing policies.

in solidarity, Kim

Day 7 in Ein Hijleh: Update and photo round up.

Dear friends,
Ein Hijleh remains steadfast, with Palestinians from all over the Occupied West Bank visiting the village in a show of solidarity.  Activists have continued to work on refurbishing the village, despite periodic harassment by Israeli Occupation Forces who have repeatedly cut water pipes and prevent food and water from entering village. Solar Panels were set up in the village today as part of the village works.

The village of Nabi Saleh cancelled its regular Friday rally against Israel's occupation to travel to Ein Hijleh on Thursday evening, planning to spend Friday in the Jordan valley village. Two children from Nabi Saleh celebrated their birthday in Ein Hijleh in the evening.

Day 6 in Ein Hijleh: update and photo roundup

Dear friends,
I will continue to update Live from Occupied Palestine daily until the first Friday anniversary of the repopulation of Ein Hijleh (ie. Friday, 7 Feb).  As of week 2, I will update every few days on what is happening in the village, unless something happens on the ground.

On Day 6 in Ein Hijleh, activists in the village remained steadfast and continued to refurbish village. Palestinians from towns and cities across the Occupied West Bank continued to converge on the village to show their solidarity and opposition to Israel's occupation and apartheid policies.  Visitors included Father Attallah Hanna who brought greetings on behalf of the Palestinian Christian community.

Israeli Occupation Forces continued to maintain a presence around the village, attempting to intimidate activists.  Activists were forced four or five times to fix water pipes deliberately cut by the IOF to prevent water access in the village.

The village of Nabi Saleh has announced that they are cancelling their regular Friday demonstration and will travel to Ein Hijleh instead.

in solidarity,

Kim

Videos from Ein Hijleh: life, solidarity, resistance

Dear friends,
activists have posted a number of videos from Ein Hijleh over the last few days.  Some simply depict life and activity in Ein Hijleh, others include interviews with Palestinian activists about Ein Hijleh and popular resistance and others show resistance to attempts by Israel's occupation forces to invade and intimidate the village.

Here are a few of the videos, which show life, solidarity and resistance.

Day 5 in Ein Hijleh: Israeli Occupation Forces raid village, injure two people. Villagers remain steadfast

Dear friends,
despite a raid by the Israeli Occupation Forces, Ein Hijleh remains steadfast.  On Day 5 in the reclaimed village, activists staged a protest on the route 90 protesting Israel's occupation and ethnic cleansings of Palestinian land and hung a welcome banner at the road, proclaiming the reclaiming of the village.

Later in the day, Israeli Occupation Forces attempted to raid the village in mass numbers.  Firing teargas and injuring a number of people.

I have included below a photo round up from the day, as well as the press release issued by the Popular Struggle Coordination Committee and the activists in Ein Hijleh.

Israeli forces raid Ein Hijleh as villagers remain steadfast

PRESS RELEASE

4th February 2014

Large amounts of Israeli forces and Border Police have made several attempts to raid the reclaimed village of Ein Hijleh and in return the villagers stopped their forced advancement into the center of the village. There were many cases of teargas suffocation as well as an injury in the leg resulting from a teargas canisters being shot directly at the youth preventing the raid.

These events came as a result of Israeli forces confiscating a welcome sign in the name of Ein Hijleh that was placed on the so called Route 90.

Furthermore, two Palestinian youth were injured last night (3rd February) after physical clashes erupted with Israeli Forces. Palestinian popular resistance activist Abedallah Abu Rahmeh was injured in his arm resulting in multiple fractures, as well as Palestinian youth Mohammad Al-Khatib suffered from several rib fractures. Both were taken to a hospital in Jericho for treatment. It is important to note that Israeli forces impeded the entry of the ambulance carrying the patients back to Ein Hijleh and forced the medical crew as well as the injured to continue their way on foot.

The village is under continuous besiegement by Israeli forces in which water, food supplies and medical crews are prevented to enter.

In regards to the village activities for today, (4th February) the villagers have renovated several homes, volunteer work in which 150 trees donated by the Environmental Relief were planted around the village. Evening activities carry on including art activities well as cultural and political discussions.

Moreover, Israeli forces have detained 18 volunteers as they were entering/exiting the village including an international solidarity activist whom was released later on. This escalation comes as a series of attempts by Israeli forces to place pressure on the village as seen from the attempts on raiding the village on the fourth and fifth days (February 3rd and February 4th) of the reclamation of the village. However, the villages prevented these attempts by creating human chains and face to face confrontation.

The organizational committee conducted a meeting in which the weekly agenda for next week was created and agreed upon. The agenda is as follows:

Wednesday:  Day of solidarity and expanding popular activities in reviving and renovating the lands and houses of Ein Hijleh.

Thursday: Day for diplomatic participation and embassy representatives to inform them on the situation of Ein Hijleh including information about the siege on the village which bans the entry of food, water, medical supplies, and journalists by Israeli forces.

Friday:  Friday prayer in the village followed by a volunteer program for planting trees and continuing the renovation of the homes in Ein Hijleh.

Saturday: Cultural Academic day in which lectures for Palestinian university students will be held to inform the students about the reality and history of Ein Hijleh.

Sunday: Day of prayer will be held in the village to reiterate the unity of the Palestinian people regardless of the religious, ethnic, and political differences.

All days will include cultural activities in which Palestinian academics and artists will take part in during the evening.
